Fauna and Flora

The Domaine du Moulin de Trimeule offers a rich and varied environment all around the unique accommodations

As a ZNIEFF area, the Domaine du Moulin de Trimeule has been officially recognized for its environmental interest.

In the forest and along the banks of the Trimeule, a tuff stream* which crosses the place, you will be able to see various bird species. Among them is the white-throated dipper, a small brown and white stocky specimen. Nesting in waterfalls, it lives near fast-flowing and stony streams in which it completely dives to find its food.

In the waters of the Trimeule, fishing lovers may find brown trout, sculpins and perch.

The site is also a haven to many squirrels, and with patience, you may see hares and country game.

Information panels are displayed in several areas of the Domaine, detailing the different animal and plant species you may encounter here.

Explanation

What is a ZNIEFF area and what is it for?

A Natural Zone of Ecological Interest, Fauna and Flora (ZNIEFF) marks out a piece of land recognized for its ecological interest. It identifies natural environments and rare or threatened species.

The ZNIEFF tool is dedicated to the protection of nature. Its classification must be taken into consideration in urban planning documents of the involved municipalities. It allows the public authorities to be alerted to the quality and resources of natural areas, as well as to the presence of protected species (plants and animals).

*Tuff is a limestone rock that can have various shapes, just like the waterfall you can see on the Domaine, over which the Trimeule flows.
